Samson’s mom was a smart women. She and her husband had just been told a second time that they were to have a son and once Samson’s dad realizes he’s seen an angel he freaks out. Judges 13:21-23 says…

When the angel of the Lord did not show himself again to Manoah and his wife, Manoah realized that it was the angel of the Lord. “We are doomed to die!” he said to his wife. “We have seen God!” But his wife answered, “If the Lord had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and grain offering from our hands, nor shown us all these things or now told us this.”

You can almost hear her say, “Seriously, Manoah! Get a grip.”

There are a lot of places in the Bible where someone has a face to face encounter with God or one of His angels and are scared they will die because God said no one was to see His face. However, this woman realizes God doesn’t promise anything He won’t deliver on. And He’s definitely not going to show up, give a promise with instructions and then kill the couple. Samson’s mom not only trusts in this promise but leans on everything that comes with it. That being life sustained at least until a child is born.

What promises of the Bible have you not been leaning on?

The promise I struggle with is to not fear. If God is in control then everything that happens is under His care. Isaiah 41:10 says it best, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
