Ok, so we’ve covered how to put on a Belt of truth by being truthful and applying God’s truth in all situations and how to wear the breastplate of righteousness by living right according to God’s standards in His Word, the Bible. Today, we are putting some interesting shoes on.
If you read Ephesians 6:15 you might notice that the belt and breastplate share the same verse, but the shoes get their own verse. Read Ephesians 6:10-17 and then revert back to verse 15, “and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” (NIV)
Our feet are to be fitted with readiness of the Gospel. Some versions say “Shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.” Roman soldiers wore boots with nails in them to grip the ground like tread during combat. The Gospel is the good news of Christ and because of this good news, believers in Christ have His peace knowing God is on their side. This peace allows a believer to stand firm just like the nails helped a Roman soldier stand firm during combat.
How does the Gospel help you stand against opposition? Does it give you wisdom, help answer those questions that others bring to you, does it give you guidance and protection from bad situations and decisions?
Do you personally know Jesus’ Gospel message? What He taught and what He stands for? Many of us are actually quite confused about who Jesus is and what He taught because all that we know of Him is hearsay. What we’ve heard from friends and family, what we’ve heard from church pulpits, and what we’ve seen in movies. But, would we not be even more ready if we picked up God’s Word and read it for ourselves? It is a love letter written to you. Would you take a personal love letter written and give it to someone else so they could interpret it for you? NO, that would be ridiculous. You’d read it first!
The Challenge, to ready your feet; start to read the Bible. I personally suggest one of the many Bible reading plans found on YouVersion.com. Or, look online. There are Bible reading plans all over the internet. Want a brief overview of the Bible before you dive in completely? Read these passages/chapters:
- Genesis 1-11
- Exodus 20
- John 1-21
- Romans 1-16
- Revelation 21-22
But, no matter what you do, read God’s letter to you. Then, you can check out what others think and say about it. But, don’t go into those conversations blind. Have Ready Feet!
