Style with a message of Hope in Christ

Hope Revealed

Hope. For some, they desire it, but fear it will never come. If this is you, take heart. If you know God, then you have hope. Hope in a future, hope in a different outlook, hope in being loved. The Israelite’s hoped and longed for a Messiah. They waited years and years. Many of them missed His birth because they were too focused on Herod’s taxation and the travel plans they had to make. Many missed His ministry because they didn’t like what they heard. It  wasn’t easy or convenient. They wanted a Messiah that would kick the Romans out of their land and free them in Israel, not one that would free them forever. And many missed His death and resurrection because they didn’t want to believe it.

Remember, when you are looking for hope, it might not be what you expect. It might be something small like a baby. Or something you don’t want to hear, but is truth. Or some kind of miracle that could easily be missed if you aren’t looking for it or expecting something else. God rarely does what I expect.

The definition of hope is to trust in, wait for, look for, or desire something or someone; or to expect something beneficial in the future. We can hope for many things. Some days I hope for trivial things. Today my hope was that I’d make all green lights. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. I hope for important things too. I hope that my children will grow up stubborn for God. That they love and follow Him so closely that their faith surpasses mine.

Psalms 33:20-22 says, “We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.” My hope is in the Lord and I am so very thankful for that hope. I have purpose and meaning because of the hope I have in Christ.

Several months ago, I went to a small family reunion. I sat across the room from one of my family members and saw what it looks like to not have any hope. It was sad, and dark, and lonely. I prayed for opportunities to share Jesus, and did my best to show what hope looks like. But, he left and seemed as hopeless as when he arrived. It breaks my heart and I regularly pray for him to find Jesus.

Where do you place your hope? My hope is in Jesus which fits perfectly with its definition. I trust in, look for and desire Jesus. And in Him I expect something beneficial in the future. I like to call it Heaven.
