Why does society sometimes call what is meant to be a blessing a punishment?

For some who find themselves unexpectedly pregnant,

although circumstances might not be what you had hoped for,

and your worried how you are going to make it through, there is one thing you should know…

To be given a child is a blessing. That baby is not given to you as a consequence or to punish you. That baby is a reminder that you are loved by God. And maybe through the love you’ll have for this child you get a small glimpse of just how much He loves you.

Enjoy your little ones and remember they are blessings, gifts, and rewards.

Kids are a blessing

Mommin’ Aint Easy

Mommin' aint easy

Being a mother isn’t easy. It doesn’t matter if you have one or five children. Each child is different and the only way to truly know what that child needs and who that child is to consult the one who knows them inside and out; their creator, GOD. Stay in constant communication with Him and He will let you know how to train up your child in the way he/she should go, so that when they are old they will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)

Got any advice for a new mother-to-be?

A girlfriend of mine told me of a book that I am looking to get. She said she thought it would be interesting for me because it discussed things that a first time mom does and then realizes it’s not as important the second time around. So here’s my question to all of you moms…

WHAT DID YOU DO WITH YOUR FIRST CHILD THAT YOU DIDN’T DO FOR YOUR SECOND?

I’m not talking about giving the first child more attention or anything like that, but the little things that made daily life easier. For example, if you heated their bottles to the exact temperature for the first child and then realized that room temperature was just as good. Or maybe you used a  wet wipes heater at home which made diaper changes harder when you child felt the cool chill of the average wet wipe at other locations. So, what advice do you have that you could pass along to those of us who are new at this and can use all the help we can get? Please share!

3 Perfect Pregnancy Dinners

I get weekly updates from BabyCenter on where I am in my pregnancy. This week my update had some nutritional recipies during pregnancy, so I thought I’d share what I had found with the rest of you…

Nutrition Nibbles: 3 perfect pregnancy dinners

Wondering what to eat tonight? These dinner ideas from Nicole Britvan, a dietitian at Kaiser Permanente Outpatient Nutrition Clinic in San Francisco, have the ideal mix of nutrients and flavor for pregnant women.

• Stir Fry Make a large stir-fry with chicken, shrimp, or tofu. To make it super fast, buy bags of frozen precut veggies and heat in a skillet with low-sodium soy sauce or olive, peanut, or sesame oil. Serve over brown rice.

• Chicken Breast Bake or broil a 4- to 5-ounce chicken breast (marinate in lemon juice and oregano for extra zip). Add 1 to 2 cups of your favorite steamed veggies, and a baked sweet potato or regular potato topped with plain yogurt and salsa or low-fat cheese.

• Chicken Quesadilla Fill 1 whole-wheat tortilla with 1 to 2 ounces of reduced fat cheese and 1 to 2 ounces of chicken, shrimp, or tofu. Add salsa or chopped tomatoes, lettuce, and a few tablespoons of fat-free refried beans for extra fiber! Serve with a handful of unsalted tortilla chips.

I think some of these would be great even if I wasn’t pregnant.

Have a great dinner tonight! HIS Child

What is the best Baby Shower Gift Ever?

Almost every pregnant woman has a baby shower and in those showers you receive several items from clothing, to diapers, to… well, you get the idea. Anyway, I am curious to hear from all you moms. I want to know what the best Baby Shower Gift you’ve ever received was. Maybe it was the item you would have never thought of, but now that you have it, you can’t live without it. Maybe it was an item that made you life  10 times easier than before.

Here’s an example of what I mean, although it does not relate to a baby shower, but a wedding. Almost a month after I was married, one of my friends gave me a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. She said, she’d been waiting to give me her wedding gift because most couples financially are tapped while trying to get the house ready and can’t go out and celebrate their 1 month anniversary. I thought that was an amazing gift, because it was exactly what we needed and it made our little celebration that much more sweet!

Anyway, whatever the gift, please share! I’d like to hear about those things that I may be needing and don’t even know about it. Think of it as helping out the HIS Child community of Mom’s who are new to this whole experience.

My Belly is a billboard!

Now that you are pregnant you may have noticed that people tend to notice you more than ever before! It’s like your belly has become a billboard for the world to see. Every shirt, every action, and your every movement is more noticeable than before.  So, what are you advertising? Are you uplifting to others? Are you advertising this pregnancy as a blessing? Are you smiling and attractive? Or are you the scary mother-to-be that everyone stays away from?I choose to use my pregnancy to advertise my faith. Before becoming pregnant I was a regular wearer of Christian T-shirts. Now, with the help of www.his-child.com I am able to still share my faith as well as my pregnancy with others. Many of my Christian Maternity shirts start all different kinds of discussions with friends, family, and strangers. I tell them of our baby boy on the way and how God has blessed our family in more ways than one. What are you advertising with your pregnancy? Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control. Or something else?

MOM-to-be Baby Books that Iv’e found Helpful

There are so many book on the market today on pregnancy, child rearing that I feel overwhelmed when I enter a bookstore. I don’t want to pay for a book by someone who does not have the same values and morals as I. I don’t want to pay for a book that doesn’t work and has false ideas. So, what books out there are worth paying for and worth reading? Since I am new at this your input would be helpful. But there are a few that I am in the mist of reading and have received high ratings on many sites and by friends and family. Here are the few that I have found so far…

In my last blog I discussed a book called “Baby Wise” by Ezzo and Bucknam. Currently, I have only read to chapter 4, but the information that I have so far received combined with the recommendation of friends has been inspirational. For any mom worried about sleep for both her and her new-born this book has helped put my mind at ease. The first chapter sucked me in. It discusses the importance of the baby joining the family, not taking it over. My husband and I have been the center of each other’s world for several years now and the idea of that changing puts a little fear into my heart. But this book showed how we are a team who is gaining a new member and one of my jobs as a parent is to invite the new member in, but not give them complete control or all my attention.

Another book I am currently reading is “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” by Murkoff and Mazel. Now, this is not a sit down and read through type of book, but as I have questions, concerns and grow into certain areas of my pregnancy I have learned that this book is a wealth of information. Many of my friends recommended it to me. My church also had a copy of it in our maternity section (an area of resources and used clothing for moms to pull from and borrow during pregnancy). I just received “What to Expect the First Year” by Heidi Murkoff which I am told is also a wealth of information. I have not yet gotten to this book.

My husband and I also about to start “Bringing Up Boys” by Josh McDowell since we now know the gender of our child. He also has “Bringing Up Girls” which just recently came out. This is another book that receives high marks from many. I will update you with more information as  I begin reading this book.

So, what other books and resources have you found that are helpful or were helpful in your past pregnancies. I’m sure many of us would like to know. Please share!
